Update: Aliens: Colonial Marines Wii-U cancelled?
[Update: According to German website, 4-Player.de, SEGA has been contacting German retailers informing them that the Wii-U version of Aliens: CM has indeed been cancelled. We are still treating the reports with a pinch of salt, but it is seeming more and more likely that Wii-U owners won’t ever see this ill-fated FPS.
This is still totally speculative at this point, as it has neither been confirmed nor denied – but there is a chance that the Wii U version of Aliens: Colonial Marines might have been cancelled, according to Eurogamer.
SEGA previously confirmed that Aliens: Colonial Marines would arrive on Wii U by 31st March. However, the game has (obviously) now missed its launch date. Eurogamer spoke to SEGA this morning, asking where the game was and whether it would see the light of day, and the publisher responded with “no comment”.
This “no comment” might be nothing to be concerned with, but it is quite vague seeing as the company previously spoke out against rumours of its cancellation in February, saying: “We haven’t announced the release date for it yet but that’s it.”
Seeing as the game received such strong criticism from the gaming press and public – could it be that SEGA now considers the Wii U version a bad investment?
Since its initial release on the Xbox, PS3 and PC, the game has received several updates and patches to fix some of the problems the game had, so surely a Wii U version with all the fixes include will do better? Or maybe the damage has already been done and the company believes the bad press will just hurt sales.
The only way I can see for SEGA to really sort this issue out would be to effectively redevelop most of the game, to really iron out all the bugs, which would cost too much.
What do you guys think? Do you even care for another version of Aliens: CM at this point?
