It’s no secret that the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise has evolved from a video game series to a multimedia empire. Aside from the literal dozens of games under its belt, we also have feature-length Sonic the Hedgehog films, Sonic the Hedgehog TV shows, and even Sonic the Hedgehog comics.
Long-time fans of the franchise might already have some of the more “classic” Sonic content. However, we’re willing to bet that you don’t have some of the more niche items that have surfaced over the years. Here’s our round-up of the weird and wonderful Sonic the Hedgehog products we only just found out about… and now we want.
Sonic the Hedgehog Monopoly
The classic board game Monopoly has always offered rich material for crossover content. There are literally hundreds of variations of the board game, catering to just about every media franchise imaginable. In recent years, Monopoly has taken over the digital realm, with Monopoly console, mobile, and online games.
In fact, one testament to the versatility of Monopoly can be found in one of its most popular online iterations – the online casino version. So-called ‘Monopoly Live’ is a mainstay at live casino sites, where users can wager real money to play a live-stream game show version of the classic board game, with a few twists thrown in.
Naturally, given this illustrious history, Sonic the Hedgehog has also jumped on the Monopoly train. To date, there are several iterations of Sonic-themed Monopoly, with the board game featuring classic locations such as Eggman’s Lair, Planet Wisp, and Rooftop Run. The currency? Golden rings of course.
Sonic the Hedgehog Foodstuffs
For any fan of niche merch, food is always a good place to start. We’ve seen some bizarre food tie-ins over the years, be it Shrek-themed Mcflurries or Terminator-themed burgers. Naturally, Sonic the Hedgehog has a jaw-dropping array of branded food products to his name, some of which have become highly sought-after collector’s items among veteran fans.
One of the all-time favourites is, of course, the Sonic-themed microwave curry, which features a Masala sauce that has been dyed a deep blue.
That’s not all though. There are Sonic-themed tinned meatballs, Sonic gourmet lollipops, Sonic hotdogs, Sonic cereal, Sonic energy drinks, and even Sonic milk. If you were so inclined, you could probably meet all of your daily nutritional requirements by only eating Sonic-branded food.
Sonic the Hedgehog Toiletries
Only real Sonic fans have the blue hedgehog in their bathroom. For some reason, the marketing geniuses at Sega decided a few years back that a line of Sonic toiletries was just what was needed to give the franchise a boost.
There’s the line of Sonic-themed shampoo, conditioner, and body scrubs, released in collaboration with the cosmetics giant Avon.
There is Sonic-themed shaving foam, which is naturally available in a deep blue hue. Then there are the Sonic travel toothbrushes, Sonic toothpaste, and, our favourite, a Sonic the Hedgehog hand wash dispenser that blares out catchphrases every time you hit the pump.
