EB Games leaks Sonic Forces release date, then retracts it
When will Sonic Forces actually come out?
There’s a difference between a release WINDOW and a release DATE. A release WINDOW is a certain year in which a developing IP is projected to come out upon completion (i.e. 2018, 2019, and so on); a release DATE is more specific, in that it’s established once the IP is a hair strand close to completion (i.e. Nov. 14, 2017).
So far in Forces’ development, SEGA only stamped their trailers with a “Holiday 2017” release window. EB Games may have leaked the release date for the Nintendo Switch version of Sonic Forces early Thursday by listing it for a November 7th release, along with a preview of the Switch box art, on its Australian website.
Hours later, EB Games retracted the Nov. 7 date and set it back to “TBC 2017,” which means that the date they listed is not officially confirmed by SEGA, therefore it’s incorrect.
I took the November 7th release date with a grain of salt, because SEGA hasn’t announced an official release date for Sonic Forces as of yet. Even if they did, it would be scheduled to hit stores and eShops a week before Thanksgiving, as was the case with Sonic CD, Sonic Rush, Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic ’06, Sonic Unleashed, and Sonic Colors–in the United States.
Until SEGA says otherwise, I’m calling a November 14th release date for Sonic Forces.
