Sonic Mania releases mid-August; pre-order trailer unveiled
If you think Sonic CD‘s animated sequences are cute, then the pencil animation in the latest trailer for Sonic Mania is 20% cooler and cuter, as SEGA announced that the game will be released on August 15th.
The trailer, animated by Tyson Heese, set to Hyper Potions’ “Time Trials,” begins with a quick kindergarten-esque drawing of Sonic, who almost got the bunny ears–probably as an homage to the very first concept sketch of him as Feel the Rabbit–before Classic Sonic pops out and zips through Green Hill Zone with the tagline, “This August, 2D Sonic Returns.” After the initial gameplay sequences, the trailer ends with Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles entering the elevator with Sonic pushing the M button, bringing the room to full technicolor, and looking up to the ceiling for his next big side-scrolling adventure with his friends by his side.
You can pre-order the digital version of Sonic Mania on Steam and the Xbox Games Store for $19.99. North American fans, you can pre-order the Collector’s Edition at your favorite retailers for $69.99 while supplies last.
P.S. Stardust Speedway has been confirmed to be in Sonic Mania, which means we might get to see Metal Sonic in all his classic glory.
