The Sonic Freedom fan game looks amazing

We’ve seen our fair share of Sonic fan games throughout the years, and while some of them certainly leave a lot to be desired, we’ve also seen a rise in their quality relatively recently.

Sonic Utopia is a good example of a fan showcasing a fun, free roaming 3D style Sonic game, but TrippleJaz is looking to build on Sonic’s early 2D platforming roots with Sonic Freedom.

TrippleJaz describes Sonic Freedom as “an on-going passion project, this is the trailer of my dream game for Sonic. It took over 300+ hours to make; everything was either hand drawn, hand-animated by myself. The only assets I didn’t create were the sound effects.”

It’s important to note that the game isn’t in playable form yet and probably won’t be for a long time as TrippleJaz is now learning to code in Unity.

“What happens next? I learn Unity then ask the community to be a part of this,” TrippleJaz wrote in the video’s description. “If you are a solid programmer, stick around as I’ll be conducting interviews for this project within the next 6 months or so (long time I know).”

In any case, Sonic Freedom is a game that we’ll be keeping an eye out for from here on out. Good luck, TrippleJaz!
