Yakuza 0 will not be censored in the West

Yakuza fans know all too well the feeling of having content cut when games are localized from Japan to English for release in the West. But if you’ve been worrying that the upcoming prequel to the series would also see portions of the game censored or cut out altogether, you need not worry.

SEGA’s PR spokesman John Hardin confirmed this in an email to Censored Gaming. “Production has confirmed that no gameplay features like that have been cut. Actually, our demo at E3 and GameStop Expo included the scene where you have to train the BDSM mistress,” he wrote. “Yakuza 0’s Kamurocho and Sotenbori are as raw as ever.”

Players will be able to watch Japanese idol videos and engage in cat fighting mini-games, as well as hanging out at parlors, making suggestive pick-up lines to women on the phone. This is certainly great news for those of us who prefer our Japanese video games to be uncensored and as close to the original developer’s vision as possible.

Yakuza 0 will release on Jan. 24 on the PlayStation 4 in the Americas and Europe. You can pre-order it from Amazon here.
