One of the great things about Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir is that it won’t be a simple HD upgrade like so many other games that have been released over the past couple years.
Instead, VanillaWare and Atlus have included a bevy of extra content, like “Extra New Game,” which, after you complete the game, allows you to play through the entire game, retaining all your items, experience and abilities you had when you finished the game, according to Gematsu.
There’s also an option for “Hell” difficulty, where your character’s health will never increase even as you gain levels, and enemies are more difficult.
Lastly, there’s a “boss rush” style mode, where you fight against the game’s sub-boss and main bosses through 30 rounds. The enemies are all set to level 50, there’s no checkpoints or ability to use item boxes.
Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir will release next week in Japan on the PlayStation 4, PS 3 and Vita, and will arrive in the West in the spring. A demo for the game will be released on the Japanese PlayStation Store on Jan. 8.
