Crunchyroll to air Phantasy Star Online 2 The Animation

Phantasy Star Online 2 The Animation debuted today in Japan, and we’ve been anxiously awaiting for one of the  major anime streaming sites to announce they’ll air it in the West.

That wait it over, and Crunchyroll has announced Phantasy Star Online 2 The Animation will air every Friday beginning Jan. 8 at 10 p.m. PST and will be available to Crunchyroll members in the USA, Canada, UK, Ireland, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands, Finland, Latin America, Turkey, the Middle East and North Africa.

The show features a completely original story that takes place on earth in the near future and follows “Itsuki Tachibana, a player of Phantasy Star Online 2, and the challenges he faces both in and outside of the game. The anime series will be the eighth project to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the Phantasy Star Online series, with the original Phantasy Star Online 2 game having been released in 2012 by SEGA.

PSO 2 The Animation is directed by Keiichiro Kawaguchi, with Mitsutaka Hirota handling both scripting and series composition. Character designs are provided by Minoko Takasu, with animation produced by TELECOM ANIMATION FILM.
