Grandia II being remastered for PC release this year

GameSpot has learned from GungHo Online Entertainment America that the company will release a remastered version of Grandia II on Steam for Windows PC later this year.

The game will in fact be based on the Dreamcast version, and not that crappy PlayStation 2 port. The remastered version will include HD visuals, mouse and keyboard and controller support and Steam achievements and Trading Cards, GameSpot reported.

“With the rise of digital downloads, it is especially important that classic games continue to remain available to play in some form,” said president of GungHo America Jun Iwasaki. “Grandia II was chosen for a PC re-release because it represents both a hallmark of the Grandia series and an example of how great JRPGs can be.”

News of Grandia II’s re-release doesn’t come as too much of a shock as GungHo issued a survey focused on gauging interest in several Game Arts’ properties, including Lunar. According to GungHo, a remastered Grandia II had overwhelming interest.

Grandia II, along with Skies of Arcadia, has long been considered one of the Dreamcast’s finest RPGs, so getting an updated version is great news. Now maybe this, along with how well successful the Valkyria Chronicles release on Steam proved, will convince SEGA to release Skies of Arcadia on Steam? I’d also be totally cool with Time Stalkers … deadly serious.
