Sonic Boom fails to place in UK top 40 sales charts

Our friends across the pond had to wait a bit longer to get their hands on Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric and Shattered Crystal, as the games weren’t released in the UK until Nov. 21, but it didn’t matter because they weren’t too excited to get the game anyway.

Both games failed to place in last week’s Chart Track’s top 40 sales charts, with the only SEGA titles in the charts being Football Manager 2015 and Alien: Isolation, at 28th and 36th, respectively.

In the Wii U and 3DS specific charts, Rise of Lyric placed third and Shattered Crystal placed 10th.

This isn’t good news at all for SEGA West’s new Sonic the Hedgehog IP as they invested considerably in the franchise, with an animated TV show, merchandise line and even a whole fan event dedicated to it.

What’s more, both games have been panned critically, with Rise of Lyric currently sporting a 38 Metacritic score and Shattered Crystal a 39. With the games selling poorly and being met with poor reviews, it will be interesting to see what SEGA does with the franchise moving forward. Would you like to see another developer, perhaps even Sumo Digital, try their hand at developing a sequel or would you rather SEGA simply kill the franchise now?
