Westone Bit Entertainment has began its bankruptcy process

The Tokyo Shoko Research has reported Westone Bit Entertainment has filed its bankruptcy process with the Tokyo District Court this week. We reported earlier this was about to happen, and Westone Bit’s websites and social networks have suspended activities.

Founded in 1986, Weston Bit Entertainment developed a huge amount of game hits during the ’80s and ’90s, particularly the Wonder Boy/Monster World series for SEGA arcades and consoles.

The question now is what will happen to the IP copyrights or assets? Will SEGA step in to acquire the whole Wonder Boy/Monster World franchise? The same happens with Sunsoft’s Adventure Island, because Sunsoft is now owned by Konami. In any case, a lot of issues will have to be resolved in the coming days.

In the meantime, take a look at our Wonder Boy/Monster World retrospective to help you remember fonder times for Westone Bit Entertainment.
