It’s not everyday you get to speak to the voice (or at least one of the many voices) behind Sonic the Hedgehog, but we were lucky enough to sit down with the pretty much legendary (and all round bloody nice chap) Roger Craig Smith!
For those of you saying: “Who?!” – well if you’ve played any major AAA games in the last 10 years or so, then there’s a very good chance that you have heard Roger’s voice in one of those games, as he has put his voice to characters such as: Batman (Arkham Origins), Chris Redfield (Resident Evil), Ezio Auditore Da Firenze (Assassin’s Creed & Soul Calibur V), Sonic the Hedgehog (since 2010), Captain America (Marvel Avengers), plus lending voices in Saints Row IV, Star Wars the Old Republic, Epic Mickey, Metal Gear Solid and Dead Island – to name just a few!
I do have two apologies to make – unfortunately we were running a little late and because of Roger’s busy schedule, we perhaps didn’t get in as many Sonic/SEGA related questions as we would have liked. Also, I did accidentally leave the camera focussed on Roger for pretty much the entire interview… but then again, who would you rather look at – a scrawny Brit, or a strapping American actor?
Anyway, we hope you enjoy the interview! I personally found it pretty interesting to hear about those invisible people behind the scenes that bring our favourite characters to life through their voices and acting.
Also a big thank you again to Roger and we hope to have him back on the show when Sonic Boom launches… no promises though!
