All eyes in the SEGA community have been on Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA F 2nd to see if SEGA’s next entry in the series can continue its impressive time in the Japanese sales charts.
Last week, during its first week in the charts, the PlayStation Vita version of Project DIVA F 2nd topped the charts by selling nearly 99,000, beating out Mario Party: Island Tour to reign supreme.
However, Mario has once again regained the No. 1 spot in the Media Create sales charts by selling 47, 106 copies, while Project DIVA F 2nd sold 16,111, placing it at the sixth spot in the charts. The PlayStation 3 version of Miku wasn’t far off, falling from the third spot last week to the ninth spot this week with 10,278 copies sold.
While staying in the top 10 is good, especially for a PS Vita game in Japan, it’s worth noting Project DIVA F 2nd saw the biggest drop in sales from its previous week of any game in the top 20, with an 84-percent fall. SEGA will certainly have to reverse that if it wants to have Miku in the top 20 in its third week at retail.
In late March, SEGA of America announced Project DIVA F 2nd will make its way to the West in fall 2014 with both a digital and physical release. Can Miku replicate her Japanese success in North America and Europe?
