Yu Suzuki to deliver a Shenmue Classic Games Postmortem at GDC 2014

Yu Suzuki, renowned game designer best known for his work at SEGA on titles such as Space Harrier, Virtua Fighter and Hang-On, will be delivering a Classic Game Postmortem at the 2014 Game Developers Conference on his most ambitious title Shenmue for the Sega Dreamcast. The delivery will take place in March 2014 at the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco, California.

The purpose of the revisit to the game will be to discuss the events which led to the creation of Shenmue from its inception as a Virtua Fighter RPG originally entitled as Akira’s Quest, through to development and release in 1999. The delivery will last for an entire hour and Mark Cerny, lead architect of the PlayStation 4, will be present with Suzuki as a translator to English speaking audiences.

Sounds exciting! I for one would love to attend, but I’d probably end up settling for the live feed on my laptop seeing as I live in a far away strange land known as Britain.
