Yakuza 1 & 2 HD coming to Wii U

Another slightly surprising announcement at today’s Nintendo Direct Japanese presentation was that Yakuza 1 & 2 HD is coming to the Wii U in Japan.

During Nintendo’s video stream, a trailer for the Wii U version of the game was shown, highlighting the upscaled visuals (over the original PS2 title), plus some Wii U-exclusive features; such being able to monitor Kazuma Kiryu’s status and navigate the mean, gangster-ridden streets of Japan using a map on the Wii U GamePad screen.

We are currently unable to find the footage of the Japanese presentation, however one very attractive (I’m assuming) NeoGaf member posted this handy Gif of the announcement.

The game bundle is due for release in Japan on 8 August, 2013. So far no announcement for European or American releases has been made.

The other question to ask is, what about the other (and future) Yakuza titles? Will they be headed for Nintendo platforms? I guess we’ll have to see just how well Yakuza 1 & 2 HD is received by Wii U owners before SEGA makes any further commitments.
