Top 10 sequels Sega has to make
Posted by Chris. Filed under News. Tagged with Dreamcast, Saturn.

It’s no secret Sega has some of the best franchises in all of gaming history. And for some reason that baffles mankind, they choose to ignore these popular franchises to create new and far less attractive ones like Yakuza or Billy Hatcher.
Consider this us calling you out, Sega.
Sega, for once, give us Sega Nerds what we want. Give us the games that made us love you to begin with. We don’t care about Yakuza, Billy Hatcher or Charlotte’s Web.
These are the games we want to play again.
10. ChuChu Rocket!
I think this game screams “Bring me to Xbox Live Arcade!” Even if Sega didn’t make this into a full-blown sequel, but added some new content and brought it to XBL Arcade, I would be a happy camper. Playing four-player against your friends was one of the most fun, hectic and rewarding games I’ve ever played. Sega, I want this one.
9. Samba de Amigo
Samba de Amigo is a rhythm-based game in the vein of Guitar Hero and Taiko Drum Master, but get this … you use maracas! Yeah, this game was one of the most pure fun Dreamcast games ever made, and this game would translate remarkably well to the Nintendo Wii and it’s motion-sensing remote.
8. Legend of Oasis
This top-down action title is the closest thing to a Zelda game that you’ll find from Sega. But the Oasis series is so much more than just a Zelda clone. With a magical armlet that allows you to summon elemental spirits, this game was one of the very best action-adventure games on the Sega Saturn. I think this game would translate perfectly into 3D, but Sega would have to bring back Yuzo Koshiro to compose the game’s music to get my full stamp of approval.
7. Ecco the Dolphin
There have actually been quite a few games in the Ecco the Dolphin franchise, with the last being Ecco: Defender of the Future on the Dreamcast and PS2. The thing is, I thought Defender of the Future was an absolutely amazing game and that Sega did a great job at bringing the franchise to 3D. Plus, it’s still one of the most gorgeous Dreamcast games I’ve ever played, so it’s confused me that we haven’t seen a sequel yet.
Sega did such a good job at successfully recreating a believable oceanic world in Defender of the Future, and I’d be very interested in seeing what they could do with the power of the Xbox 360 or PS3.
6. Phantasy Star
Okay, Sega, enough is enough. We’ve taken Phantasy Star online and even journeyed to the Phantasy Star Universe, but these games have gotten so stale with little to no innovation, repetitive gameplay and a ridiculous monthly charge. I want to see this series return to its roots where we first fell in love with it in traditional RPG style.
5. Skies of Arcadia
Skies of Arcadia was one of two extremely awesome Dreamcast RPGs (the other being Grandia 2). The game took the Airship concept a few steps further with actual flying pirate ships, complete with insanely awesome ship-vs.-ship battles. Sega, if you do ever decide to make a sequel to this awesome franchise, you better leave the ship battles in or else I will write you a very nasty letter, and you won’t like it one bit. Trust me.
4. Panzer Dragoon Saga
Sega took a big risk transforming the successful Panzer Dragoon series from a shooter to an RPG during the Saturn’s heyday, and it worked … really well. Dragoon Saga is now one of the Saturn’s most valuable titles due to its low production numbers and incredible amount of awesomeness. Hey Sega, please produce more copies the next go around.
3. Streets of Rage
Back in the 16-bit days, there were tons of 2D brawlers, and none were better than Streets of Rage, not even Final Fight. However, Sega, if you do decide to ever make a new entry into this series, please keep it 2D. I’ve seen far too many of my beloved 2D franchises meet untimely deaths due to developers who think 3D makes for a better game. It doesn’t.
All Sega has to do is update the game’s graphics, give us some new gameplay elements and throw this puppy online and they have a winner. Pretty simple, eh?
2. NiGHTS into Dreams
Taking control of Claris and Elliot in hopes of saving Nightopia was an absolute blast back in the day on the Saturn. And like Samba de Amigo, I think NiD would make for a great Wii or PS3 title, since both controllers make use of motion and tilt technology, respectively. Heck, even series creator, Yuji Naka, said the Wii would be perfect for a sequel.
Hell, I’ll even pay full price for a graphically-updated, but otherwise straight port of the original. Throw in the Christmas NiGHTS expansion, and Sega, you have a winner.
1. Shenmue
Did you expect anything else? Sega Nerds the world over have been clamoring for this game’s release for a long, long time. And it seems every time we get wind of the game’s possible realization, we are just letdown again.
When I first experienced Shenmue, I had never played a game that so perfectly recreated a living, breathing world. And while some gamers thought the story and gameplay was a tad boring, I was completely blown away by the epic feel of the game and lovable characters (That silly Fuku-san, will he ever learn?). And I thought Shenmue 2 kept the series heading into the right direction. Unfortunately, gamers didn’t agree, and sales never met expectations.
And if things couldn’t get worse for the franchise, it now seems like Shenmue Online will never see the light of day. However, hope will still remains among the Sega faithful that our beloved franchise will see a third title added one day.
Sega, I promise if you give us Shenmue 3, my letters to you will stop. Seriously.

First of all, i couldn’t agree more with the sequel this game needs, BUT u have to remember Sega isn’t anymore SEGA, the original teams are disbanded now, and so much of the games they are doing are just CRAP, so if that’s the way they are gonna bring us the “sequels” thanks but no thanks, u just have to look at the HORRIBLE job they did with the “new” SONIC for xbox360 or ps3 to see the WRONG they are in making sequels of games the new team don’t have a clue WHAT make them great in the first place, and the HUGE MISTAKE the new sega make by letting the guys that make this wonderful games go, i feel sorry for SEGA because Yu Suzuki is gone and without him is like Nintendo without Miyamoto, i don’t want a Shenmue sequel that’s is not made by Yu, and even if in my heart i truly want to see Shenmue III TBA, i don’t want them to kill the respect the game has, by making a horrible sequel.
Thus for the TRUE SEGANERDS, sega is officialy dead

I’d love to see a Chu Chu Rocket sequel on the DS. I’ve even got the perfect touch-screen control system in mind: just draw a quick line across the square you want in the direction you want. The original was insanely fast, but with that in place it would move even quicker. You could even keep the online functions on the DS.
As for NiGHTS… I’m thinking Wii for that one. Super Mario Galaxy just screams NiGHTS.

A very nice list. I would have liked to squeeze Columns or Baku Baku Animal on there… Maybe DecAthlete or Eternal Champions as well… But the list certainly makes sense and I have no objections at all. Good work!

Whoa. That’s a good list. Golden Axe, House of the Dead or Alex Kidd should be their somewhere, but for now, here’s my opinons. Also, below is a response to Red Robin’s message.
Chu Chu Rocket = Maybe = It had a GBA port, so it’s not forgetten, but a DS port or a Xbox Live verision would be nice.
Sambe de Amigo = Maybe = It would be nice on the Wii or DS, but with so many “rythmn games”, it’s lost it’s thunder.
Legend of Oasis = Maybe = Sorry, but this is a tough one. It would be good to see this on DS, but with TLOZ: Phantom Hourglass coming up, it has some competion.
Ecco the Dolphin = Maybe = Okay, Ecco the Dolphin would be good for Wii, PS3 and X360, but Nintendo’s making another “ocean game” Forever Blue, so Ecco will have to be a PS3 or X360 exclusive, or go to the DS.
Phantasty Star = No = Sorry, but the series lives with Unverise. Okay, maybe that’s not true, but Phantasty Star Episode III was the final part of the trilogy of the series. Maybe a port would be good, but as it stands, it’s not in the cards right now.
Skies of Arcadia = Yes = We lost many good RPGs in the 21st century, and Skies of Arcadia is one. Plus, using the Wii Remote or the PS3 controller to control the ship = Sweetness.
Panzer Dragoon Saga = Maybe = It seems that looks like a good RPG, but don’t we have enough 21st Century RPGs, plus wanting a Phantasty Star IV or Skies of Arcadia sequel defeates the purpose. Hower, changing the series back to a shooter might give it enough potential for a remake.
Streets of Rage = Yes = Beat em’ups rock! However, keeping it 2D might be a promblem, but making it a 3D beat em’ups might be bad too. Maybe 2D Beat-Em-Up’s died translated into 3D (*cough Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Final Fight cough*), so it would just be for Wii and PS2.
NiGHTS = Already Planned = Your wish came true as NiGHTs gets a new 3D appearance on the Wii (sorry, PS3 lovers). However, throw in a port of the oringal game and Christmas NiGHTS cheat and it’s golden.
Shueme = Maybe = Sorry, but I haven’t played many old-school RPGs. Shuemue III looks like heaven on PS3 and X360, but you have so many RPGs you want, it makes it hard to add it.
For Red Robin:
Columns = Maybe = Columns for the DS and PSP would be nice, but their are so many puzzle games out their, it’s losing spark quickly.
Baku Baku Animal = Maybe = Baku Baku Animal looks good, but it’s a puzzle game, so it might lose it’s spark. Also, if it gets ported to DS or PSP, it’ll have to compete with Tetris DS for having the same “formula”.
DecAthlete = Maybe = I don’t know about it, but it sounds like a sports game, so I’m going to have to think about this one.
Eterenal Champions = Maybe = It looks like a good 2D fighter to resscurt, but with so many 2D fighters out their, it’s going to have to wait a while.

Okay, here’s how I would picture some games on a system,
Chu Chu Rocket = Chu Chu Rocket would be suited for the DS. Playing wirelessy with friends would be could. The mice would be controlled via stylus on the bottom screen and the top screen will show stats. Plus with a few new modes, and the abilty to play as a Kapu Kapu, this could be a good multiplayer game.
Samba de Amigo = A Wii sequel would be good (plus I think it’s in the works). The Wiimote and Nunchuk would work as marchas and performing special movements with the Wiimote would give you points. Just add multiplayer and Sega music and they have a hit!
Legend of Oasis = The game could work on the DS and PSP. Having the bottom screen as a inventory (using Select on the PSP works too), and the top screen displaying action, a classic top-down dungeon crawler is born. Look out TLOZ: Phantom Hourglass!
Ecco the Dolphin = Using the Wiimote to swim would be a new experience for the series. With a new 3D element, Ecco the Dolphin’s next-generation debut would be a big hit!
Phantasty Star = On Wii or DS. With the Wiimote, handling and using weapons would just be easy with a click of your wrist. On the DS, the touch screen displays inventory and make it easier to acess weapons. Anyway, just add 4-Player add they’re ready to go!
Skies of Arcadia = On the Wii and PlayStation 3. Having the Wiimote to perform actions such as slashing, activating buttons and shooting would be good. And with the Wiimote as the ship’s wheel, the ship battles are more awesome.
Panzer Dragoon Saga = Bringing it to it’s roots on Wii and adding RPG elements would be a good chance to bring classic light-gun action to the Wii, and at the same time bring RPG action.
Streets of Rage = On Wii and PlayStation 2. Using the Wiimote to attack and perform attacks like punches and kicks, plus making it 3D (but keep the 2D sidescrolling like what they did with Sonic DS), would guarntee it’s return.
NiGHTS into Dreams = Since it’s already in devolopement….
Shueme = Make it a Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 RPG. Nuff said.

Eternal Champions Challenge from the Darside is a must have on that list.
Everything else I could care less if they remake or not, with the exception of Skies of Arcadia

i dont know why sega just can release sequals every 2-4 years like say the final fantasy series ??? it creates momentum for even larger sales next time around (that is if the games dont suck)

i agree with all of those choices but man
sega really has ignored its loyal sega fanbase.i
for one enjoyed panzer dragoon saga so much that i still have yet to find a ps3 game that
even matches its quality. panzer dragoon orta
was sega’s last blockbuster title and not to mention the best graphics and gameplay on the xbox. if sega in three years cant revive any old ip
im just going to give up 16 year support and
start looking for a new company to supply me with games.IMG]http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g20/dremanontoppp/669330.jpg[/IMG]
